Students and instructors participating in the University of California, Davis, European Plant Breeding Academy (EPBA) just wrapped up a session in Almeria, Spain. The Academy was held at the University of Almeria and students got to tour local companies, which included Monsanto Vegetable Seeds and Rijk Zwaan Ibérica.
Almeria is located on the coast of Southern Spain and has a population of about 200,000. It’s at the center of one of the most important regions for protected production of vegetables and fruits and is a center of excellence in plant breeding of vegetable crops.
The UC-Davis Plant Breeding Academy is a professional certificate program offered in the United States, Europe and Africa. According to staff PBA staff, employers appreciate the opportunity to provide their valued employees advanced training without disrupting their full-time employment. Participants attend six 6-day sessions during two years. The instructors are internationally recognized experts in plant breeding and seed technology.
Applications are being accepted for European Plant Breeding Academy Class 5 beginning in October 2017. Discount is available for registrations submitted before March 31.
