Joe Butwin Retires, Stokes Hires New US Sales Manager

Fraser

After 23 years of service to Stokes Seeds, Joe Butwin, U.S. sales manager, is celebrating a much deserved retirement.

“Joe began his career as the company’s first U.S. sales manager,” says Wayne Gale, president of Stokes Seeds. “Starting with three sales reps, he rebuilt the team to become a respected power house of experts able to increase market share in the Northeast.

“At times, often regarded as just a ‘Canadian’ seed company, Joe put Stokes on the U.S. map as an important regional player in the vegetable seed business.”

Gale says Butwin’s input on the executive team helped make Stokes Seeds a respected, quality distributor of flower and vegetable seed.

“Along with his expertise and willingness to help in any task or problem, Joe has been an important part of our success,” he says.

Stepping into the role of U.S. sales manager is Bruce Ulmer, who will also be a part of the company’s executive team. As part of the transition, Butwin will continue to work part time until January 2018. Gale says this transition period will help ensure Ulmer is provided the best opportunity for success in his new role.

Formerly with Seedway for 22 years in a number of roles, Ulmer has a wealth of experience in the seed industry. He has an MBA from Indiana University and master’s in agriculture economics from Purdue University, along with experience in marketing and strategic planning.
