In its 86th year as the only North American non-profit trialing organization for plants that demonstrate great garden performance, All-America Selections (AAS) Winners are evaluated by professional, independent, volunteer judges who grow them next to comparisons that are considered best in class.
Bred by Asia Seed Co., Ltd., Melon Orange SilverWave F1 is a regional winner in the Northeast and Southeast. Orange SilverWave is an exotic melon bred in South Korea with an extremely sweet, orange flesh and unique rind color.
Many gardeners are looking to grow something different to “wow” their guests, and this melon does just that. The attractive 5-inch oval melons grow on vigorous vines, producing up to six fruits per vine. Whether grown in a large container or in-ground, it’s best to grow the vines on a trellis for better disease control. Cal Sweet Bush is an example of how ongoing breeding efforts result in a new and better short internode (the sections between the stem joints) watermelon that has compact 14- to 18-inch vines and still provides enough foliage to protect the fruits. Each plant yields two to three 10-pound fruits.
