Manitoba is planning to lift its restrictions on March 15. This means our plan to hold our annual general meeting in Winnipeg in July is a go!
After almost two years of virtual meetings, it will certainly be a welcome change to see people in person again. We are eagerly awaiting our first in-person meeting since Seeds Canada became a reality on Feb. 1, 2021. The announcement of our July in-person meeting coincides with our new membership drive.
We’re moving into the next stage of strengthening our organization and reaching out to those who need more information on the value of joining Canada’s newest national seed industry organization.
Why join us at the table?
The forming of Seeds Canada brought the seed value chain together under one roof — from growers, developers and breeders to analysts, distributors, and processors — providing a stronger voice for all members and for the sector. With the full seed industry value chain together in one organization, you are able to have a broader discussion on topics of importance and gain the ability to network and build new relationships and strategic partnerships in the industry.
As a Seeds Canada member, you would have the platform to help shape policies that directly impact your business or organization — whether it be through advocacy efforts with other members or via our various partnerships with government departments.
Our various policy and issues committees provide many opportunities for members to be consulted on items of specific interest. Currently, one of the leading files is Seed Regulatory Modernization (SRM). Seeds Canada represents its members on the SRM Working Group with several of its members participating on the Task Teams that will result in recommendations to government.
As a Seeds Canada member, you also get access to seed databases, and an upcoming members-only platform that will be available this spring and will house these databases and feature other benefits for your business, including our membership directory, policy documents, industry updates, and a members-only discussion forum. In its first year of operation, Seeds Canada is proving itself to be a leader.
We took the lead in building a broader, vision-setting discussion about the future of seed in Canada and SRM through the development of Seed Summit 2022, which took place over the month of February. The Summit saw a high-level of participation from seed and agricultural sector stakeholders. More than 770 stakeholders registered for the event.
