DLF has appointed two people to fill major leadership roles within its global team.

As of July 1, 2021, Klaus K. Nielsen will assume a new position as director of corporate external affairs. Taking his place as chief scientific officer (CSO) is Derek Bartlem.

In the past 15 years, Nielsen has been responsible for the DLF Group’s worldwide plant breeding activities. He will now be responsible for representing DLF’s strategic interests through dialogue and interaction with authorities and industrial bodies globally.

In particular, Nielsen will focus on ensuring that DLF’s products are positioned correctly in relation to the company’s green agenda, the company said. He will also hone in on the regulatory framework in the value chain from plant breeding, field production and quality.

On July 1, Bartlem will join DLF as CSO. Bartlem has international experience with scientific research, as well as participation in leading research organizations and programs. Currently, he is head of research, USA, for the KWS Group and managing director of KWS’ U.S.-based research facility. He has also previously been tenured as an associate professor in the faculty of agriculture at Hokkaido University in Japan. Bartlem has an academic background with a PhD in applied bioscience.

At DLF, Bartlem will lead the group’s plant breeding organization and be at the head of developing their green and sustainable solutions for global customers. He will also become a member of DLF’s global executive management board.
