PRIDE Seeds, Canada’s third-largest seed corn company, has announced it will be donating over $36,000 to food banks across Canada.
Kelly Atkinson, vice-president of finance for the Pain Court, ON-based company, said the current COVID-19 crisis is impacting families across the country, with many struggling to buy groceries.
“To help address needs across the country, an initial corporate donation of $25,000 was made,” said Atkinson, adding that individual employee contributions were then made and matched by the company.
Agriculture is an essential service and Atkinson says employees are thankful they are still working to ensure growers can plant this year’s crops.
“As proud members of Canada’s agricultural community, contributing to food security is a core value for us and we’re very happy to lend a helping hand to food banks, which we know are having an especially difficult time right now,” Atkinson added.
The money will be dispersed to food banks selected by employees in their own communities.
