Dear NAPB members and colleagues,
It is time to encourage any last minute self-nominations by your outstanding students. We are seeking qualified upper level undergraduates and advanced level graduate students with interest in attending the NAPB Annual Meetings, August 25-29, 2019 at Pine Mountain, GA. We encourage your help in identifying and inviting great candidates to apply for our 2019 NAPB Borlaug Scholarships. We expect to have at least 10 travel grant with professional mentoring scholarships available for 2019.
The NAPB Borlaug Scholarship Committee thinks that you may be able to help identify a few more top undergraduates and graduate students in advanced stages of study, who have interest in pursuing a scientific career in plant breeding, or closely related professions, with the goal of entering a leadership role in plant improvement. Applicants can self-nominate. These students need to compete in our national competition among their peers for these awards. We are seeking a broad pool of diverse talent.
Please encourage any top plant breeding students to apply online now! The March 21 deadline is rapidly approaching! Applications need to be initiated by March 21st, with a supporting letter of recommendation uploaded by March 26th. Selection will take place in April. Winners will be notified and travel planning initiated in April.
Our Borlaug Scholars awards include:
- Travel expenses up to $1500/awardee to attend the NAPB Annual Meetings (a requirement to receive the award).
- Complimentary registration fee waiver to attend the NAPB Annual Meeting at Callaway Gardens Resort in Pine Mountain, GA hosted by the University of Georgia Aug 25-29, 2019.
- Mentors from our NAPB membership will be assigned to each scholar during and following the annual meetings
- Free first year student membership in NAPB, if not previously a student member
- Opportunity to present a research poster.
- Networking opportunities with plant breeders of all types during special events
- Recognition within and beyond your chosen profession!
