Kim McConnell Honoured with Order of Canada Medal

Industry veteran Kim McConnell has been honoured with an induction into the Order of Canada.

He received his medal yesterday at a special ceremony in Ottawa. Gov.-Gen Julie Payette made numerous new appointments to the Order of Canada including McConnell. He has been appointed to the Order of Canada for his leadership in promoting Canada’s agricultural industry and for his extensive engagement in causes supporting youth, entrepreneurship and rural communities.

McConnell is the founder and former CEO of AdFarm, an agriculture-focused marketing and communications firm. Over the years, Kim has led many national and international brand and marketing assignments for many companies and played a lead role in branding the City of Calgary and the naming and international branding of EnCana. Kim has served as director on a number of company boards. He mentors a number of entrepreneurs and provides volunteer leadership to many organizations. Currently, he is a director on the Canadian 4-H Council and former Chairman of the Canadian 4-H Foundation.

McConnell spoke to Germination in 2017 on behalf of CropLife Canada about the Seed Synergy Collaboration Project, which he hailed as a new beginning for the seed sector.

“In Canada we have the benefit of seeing collaboration in the chemical business, the biotechnology and genetics business and trade. Traditional industry segments that operated rather independently now realize that there are benefits for many when greater teamwork occurs — and that’s what the Seed Synergy project is doing. We have six seed industry organizations saying, ‘Hey, we need to work more closely than we have in the past.’ That’s why Seed Synergy is so significant,” McConnell said.
