Fortunately for mankind we have a lot of brilliant minds who tirelessly carry out their research and come up with new and innovative solutions for the various challenges we’re facing. Without innovation we’d still be sitting around the campfire worried about wolves and the next thunder storm. The EU continues to invest in research and innovation, for example through its Horizon 2020 programme, which is the biggest EU R&I programme ever, with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. But is the money spent in the right places? European Seed looks at some of the recently awarded EU R&I projects, in seeking to answer that question.
