Ah, the business card. With email, text messaging and the like, it’s sometimes tempting to think the business card is a relic of the past. Far from it. You should always have a fresh box handy. It can make all the difference in helping you grow your network. Let me explain.
Within Nexeed, I often hear the line, “Hey Greg, you must know a guy who can help me with this. What can you find out?”
Over the years, I have come to realize that “I don’t know” is simply not an acceptable response. Instead, I adopt a proactive approach by saying, “I don’t have the answer right now, but let me try to find it for you.”
While our standard procedures and protocols are efficient, there are occasional instances where they may not fully address the unique needs of our customers. In such complex situations, where our usual approach falls short, I step up to find alternative solutions. This is where my network comes into play.
Whether it’s reaching out to our North American representative or seeking assistance from a knowledgeable service person in South America who has access to detailed drawings, I leave no stone unturned. This collaborative effort often yields resolutions within a matter of hours instead of days.
While some may consider it old-fashioned, I’m a firm believer in the value of business cards to help do this. They serve as tangible reminders of the connections I’ve made. Having their business card in my collection is like having a reliable resource for detailed technical inquiries.
The company name and picture on the card easily bring their expertise to mind, making it convenient for me to reach out to them when needed. Conversely, I always leave them one of mine, whether it’s in person or via the mail. Networking without a business card is like navigating a maze without a map. You can do it, but it makes the job a lot harder.
My role is that of a bridge connecting our customers with the diverse resources available within our network. By relentlessly pursuing customer satisfaction and proactively seeking alternative solutions, I ensure that our customers receive the best service and support possible.
