New genetic testing assay and genetic purity analysis uses DNA markers.
Indiana Crop Improvement Association Inc. (ICIA) recently announced the development and release of a new genetic testing assay, genetic purity analysis for corn seed, using DNA markers.
ICIA has developed a set of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers, offering a comprehensive analysis of a seed lot’s genetic integrity. These SNP markers enable ICIA scientists and technologists to identify unwanted plant types, such as selfs and off-types, within both hybrid and inbred corn seed lots. The results are delivered promptly, empowering seed producers to make informed decisions swiftly, ensuring they meet the highest standards of genetic seed quality.
“This new genetic testing capability will drive ICIA’s diverse offering of services forward as we continue in our commitment to provide quality testing and exceptional service for ICIA member customers,” ICIA CEO Craig Nelson said in an ICIA news release.
