Allen Van Deynze Recognized by NCCPB
During the American Seed Trade Association’s CSS 2016 & Seed Expo in Chicago, the National Council of Commercial Plant Breeders recognized Allen Van Deynze with the Public Plant Breeding Award.
This award is given to a person who has made outstanding basic contributions to the advancement of plant breeding and genetics in the public sector, said Rice Tec’s Jose Rea, who presented the award consisting of a $1,500 check and an engraved plaque.
Van Deynze serves as research director for the University of California, Davis, Seed Biotechnology Center, which is a founding member of the African Orphan Crops Consortium. Van Deynze was unable to accept the award in person as he was away working on a project with the consortium.
At UC-Davis, Van Deynze is responsible for developing, coordinating and conducting research and generating and disseminating scientific and informational content for the center’s educational and outreach programs.
Seed World congratulates Van Deynze on this award. Our publisher Shawn Brook recently caught up with him at the Solgenomics Conference, where Van Deynze talks about everything from genomics to communications. Watch the video to hear what he had to say.[rate_this_page]
